Lawrence Jacket: Production Update No.10

On the 29th of April 2023, after 4 years, 3 months and 6 days of development, our first jacket went on sale.

It took just 34 hours, 24 minutes and 16 seconds to sell out.

Given that each jacket is hand crafted in limited numbers, the process of getting from order through to delivery isn’t always plain sailing. That said, it’s incredibly important to me that our customers are kept fully informed and up to date throughout production.

Rather than keep everything behind closed doors, what follows is the tenth full production update email that was sent out to our first customers.

Before we get into the latest (and last!) update, I want to thank you again for your trust, your support and for being such an important part of this journey.

Of course, there's part of me that's relieved that this is the last update. It means your jacket's days away from completion and will soon be landing on your doorstep.

But there's also a huge part of me that's already feeling a sense of loss.

Although these updates have sometimes been written under pressure, it's been a joy to share the progress and to bring you along with me behind the scenes.

Finishing touches.

Each of the jackets are now 'whole'. Rather than a collection of fabric patterns, everything has now been stitched together. As of tomorrow, it's on to the final touches.

When you receive your jacket, check out the inside of the lapel. You'll notice that there's no visible stitching behind each button.

Unlike machine stitching, where the needle passes through each layer of fabric and leaves a visible knot of thread, the buttons on the Lawrence have been hand stitched. That gives us more control and is a touch you'd only normally find on a fully bespoke jacket.

Timing is everything.

Last year, my wife and I booked a holiday. What with Covid and then moving country, we haven't seen her family from Australia for 4 years.

So when we looked at the calendar to find dates that would work for all of us, I didn't think twice when everyone floated Italy from the 11th to the 26th of October.

That'll be fine I thought, the Lawrence will have gone out in August so I can use the opportunity to celebrate and take a breather before starting the process again with the next jacket.

Best laid plans hey?

So with the courier booked in to collect all the jackets on the afternoon of Tuesday the 10th, your jacket will probably land with you at the same time that I touch down in Italy.

I know it's not ideal as I'd prefer to be on hand to respond to any questions but I'll be taking my laptop with me and so if, for any reason you need to get in touch with me, you can.

Nearly there!

Thanks,

Mark Warman
