On the 29th of April, after 4 years, 3 months and 6 days of development, our first jacket went on sale.

It took just 34 hours, 24 minutes and 16 seconds to sell out.

Given that each jacket is hand crafted in limited numbers, the process of getting from order through to delivery isn’t always plain sailing. That said, it’s incredibly important to me that our customers are kept fully informed and up to date throughout production.

Rather than keep everything behind closed doors, what follows is a full production update email that was sent out to our first customers.

You should have received the last email that went out thanking everyone for their support but I wanted to write to you individually to thank you again and to let you know what to expect over the next 12 weeks of production.

From buying your jacket through to delivery, I want the entire experience to be positive. Putting myself in your shoes, a big part of that means being kept up to date and getting a look behind the scenes throughout the process. Some weeks will be quiet and others will be super busy. Either way, whatever happens, I'll be emailing you every week with an update.

So let's get started!

Given that the Lawrence sold out so quickly, I've managed to get a bit of a head start on the ordering process.Each jacket uses 5 different fabrics, 2 types of interfacing, 2 styles of buttons and a whole raft of other bits and pieces. 

Here's what I need to take delivery of to get started on production:

• 350gsm organic cotton gabardine (outer)

• 140gsm organic cotton sateen (printed lining)

• 140gsm organic cotton sateen (sleeve & pocket lining)

• 125gsm British wool (quilting)

• 480gsm 2x1 organic cotton rib (recessed cuffs)

• 96gsm heavy fusible domette (body interfacing)

• 240gsm heavy fusible canvas (collar & pocket interfacing)

• 4mm shoulder pads (shoulders)

• 32l Corozo laser engraved buttons (body buttons)

• 24l Corozo laser engraved buttons (cuff & epaulette buttons)

• 12mm black metal press stud buttons (collar)

• Gütermann Mara 120 thread

• Care & size tags

As you know, the gabardine has already been delivered. I placed the order for the wool, the cotton rib, buttons and thread last week. The printed lining along with the care and size tags will start production this week. 

To make sure everything's as expected, I'll be taking delivery myself so that I can go through it all with a fine tooth comb. I'll check for any quality issues before taking everything over to the tailors.

Final size check

While everything's winging it's way over to me, we have the chance to do a final size check.

Because I only have enough gabardine to make 50 jackets and they're all spoken for, if the size is wrong, I won't be able to make you another one so I'm super keen to make sure we get this right.
